Internships!

Summer

Marine Science Education & Aquarist Internship

The focus of this internship is on marine science education. During our 11 week summer our four interns rotate teaching our three classes, Oceanography Merit Badge, BSA Aquarist and BSA Oceanographer and taking care of the aquarium as our lead aquarist. Each intern will get to do each of these things at least twice during a summer.

During a typical day in the summer interns spend the first half of the day teaching or caring for the aquarium. The second half of the day is spent as an entire staff together working on projects or going for collection dives.

Interns will take a knowledge test upon arrival and the same one upon departure.  This way interns can see for themselves how much they have learned and we can determine if we are focusing on the right topics.

Spring & Fall

Aquarist Internship

The focus of this internship is on running an aquarium. During this 13 week internship interns spend their time learning to care for all aspects of the aquarium from husbandry and exhibit maintenance to life support systems. They also get to regularly improve upon their diving and boating skills by helping with different animal accession methods.

During a typical day interns spend the first half of the day performing aquarium husbandry and life support system checks and maintenance. The second half of the day is spent together collection diving or working on other aquarium projects.

Interns will take a knowledge test upon arrival and the same one upon departure.  This way interns can see for themselves how much they have learned and we can determine if we are focusing on the right topics.
